Gays in Nazi Germany remembered

25 10 2009

In Berlin it was yesterday 75 year ago that the Gestapo, secret police, gave the order to arrest all gay people in Germany. It was remembered in the park Tiergarten where a memorial service was held on behalf of all the victims. It’s not exactly certain how many gay people died during that time but between 10.000 and 25.000 is most common number picked. The Police Chef that spoke at the memorial called the arrest and killing of gays during those days one of the darkest periods in German History that was partly to blame on the police.
