Gay News,Hawaii Gov. compares gay marriage to incest, Top Chef judge on Gay Pride float, separate showers if DADT is repealed?

14 07 2010

Linda Lingle, the Governor of Hawaii, who vetoed the civil unions bill of the state last week said on air that if gay marriage is a civil right than close relatives should also be able to get married, because that could be seen as a civil right as well. Lingle said ” First cousins could not get married, or a brother and sister and that sort of thing.” First off comparing gay marriage to incest is super insulting, second first cousins CAN actually get married in Hawaii. What a stupid bitch.

Top Chef Judge Tom Colicchio can be seen on a bear float during LA Gay Pride 2011. He told Andy Cohen during Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live” that he was insulted that no one in the bear community had asked him to be on a float during this years Gay Pride. After the show Bravo got flushed with phone calls and “A Bear’s Life Magazine” set it up. Because of his stocky build Colicchio, who is married with kids,  has been an icon in the bear community for quite sometime. Even though his restaurants have underwhelmed me often, this is pretty cool.

Friday it was made clear that if DADT will be repealed there might be some changes in the living situation of military people. The Pentagon is now heavily denying wanting separate barracks and showers after heavy criticism from the gay community and says there is only talk about maybe some extra shower curtains. Fuck that, how can a president whose father has been subjected to segregation even consider some of these things. Very repulsive.

The U.K. AIDS hospice made famous back in the 80’s by the visit of Princess Diana will be torn down. In 1989 the Princess of Wales was one of the first famous people to touch and hug people living with HIV/AIDS. Incredibly important in breaking the taboos.

Gay news, Anita bitch back, gay basher in NY gets nothing, Today Show and the gays, Broadway Bares

10 07 2010

The original Carrie Prejean, anti-gay beauty queen Anita Bryant will be back in the public eye. She will be in Yukon, Oklakoma for a patriotic performance. It is basically for a group against muslims and gays(cause they are similar?!) It will also coincide with the local Tea Party. Prejean ,who of course is not nearly as bad as Bryant was, got married last weekend to pro football player San Diego quarterback Kyle Boller. She did it in style, at the hotel of anti-gay Doug Manchester.

Driton Nicaj assaulted 3 gay man in 2009 and only got 45 days, less than Lindsay Lohan. Two men required stitches and one men even a metal plate in his skull while he used anti-gay slurs. Apparently the judges think this is not severe. Unbelievable. And why is it so often in civilized places like the Netherlands and New York a non local sounding name?? Those people should go back to their own countries if they cannot be civil in ours.

The Today Show got a lot of slack from pro-gay people by not letting gay couples enter their ” Modern Wedding Contest”. They eventually agreed it was not fair and opened the contest for gays as well. Now of course the right-wing bigots are all up in arms. The American Family Association for instance wants people to boycott the Today show from now on for promoting this “sinful behavior.” Poor Today Show, can’t do it right for everyone. But they did the right thing in my eyes.

Broadway Bares is a yearly show from Broadway Cares in which stars of the theatre strip and dance for HIV/AIDS. They raised an amazing 1 million dollars this year. I have never been but after seeing this footage, count me in for next year!!

Gay news,U.S district court thinks DOMA unconstitutional, HIV vaccine breakthrough, U.K supreme court/asylum, Helsinki Gay Pride arrests

9 07 2010

A U.S district court in Boston has ruled that section 3 of DOMA is unconstitutional. It is an enormous victory for same-sex marriage. In both Commonwealth of Massachusetts vs Health and Human Services as well as Gill vs Office of Personnel Management, Judge Tauro thinks DOMA violates equal protection principles. Great news!!

U.S government scientists have discovered 3 powerful antibodies against the HIV virus. The strongest neutralizes 91% of all cells!! More than any before. The cells were found in an African-American gay man who had the cells naturally. Researchers screened 25 million of his cells to find 12 that produced antibodies. Unfortunately it will be years before this can be used on people, still very good progress.

The U.K Supreme Court has decided that gay couple who fear retribution in their home countries have a right for asylum in the U.K. The decision involved 2 men from Iraq and 1 from Cameroon. Lord Hope said that to compel a homosexual person to deny their sexuality is to deny them a fundamental right to be who he is. Well said. Lord Roger said that just as male heteros are free to enjoy rugby, beer and talking about woman with their male friends ,gays should be allowed to listen to Kylie ,drink exotic coloured cocktail and talk about boys with their girlfriends. A little ridiculously stereotypical but I guess he meant good.

Last weekend it was Helsinki Gay Pride. Three men decided to ruin the fun and used pepper spray and smoke bombs. Over 30 people were hit by it and also some children. Nobody was injured but the men have been charged with a hate crime and Finnish president Tarja Halonen denounced the attack.

Google pays gays extra, Ireland passes civil partnerships bill, AIDS crisis looms again because of recession

2 07 2010

What a great idea!! Internet giant Google will pay their gay employees extra to compensate for a  tax required when receiving domestic partnership health insurance. Something straight couples do not have to do. After a gay guy complained about the fact they had to pay over 1000 dollars extra ,Google Human Resources looked into it and thought it was only fair to give gays some extras.

The Dail(lower legislative chamber) in Ireland yesterday passed a civil partnerships bill. It passed all stages without a vote and now goes to the Irish version of the Senate. Next step might be marriage but this is already great news. There were only a few protesters with the same old complaints saying gay sex is sodomy.

A new AIDS crisis might be looming again in the U.S. Reason is that the people who depend on the government assistance to get their meds, do not get that anymore because of the budget cuts. Without the assistance people have to pay the 12.000 a year themselves and many can’t. Results will be HIV that becomes full-blown AIDS ,more infections and extensive hospital stays for patients. Not good.

Gay news, oldest US gay bar to close, Belgium gay Prime Minister, gay house burned down in Iraq

19 06 2010

A gay bar in Fairfield ,Connecticut that has been open for 71 years will be closing shop. The owner, 57, said the new landlords have doubled the rent and it is just not profitable anymore. He bought it in 1989 after going there since he was 21. Before the 70’s it was a refuge for gays and in the 70’s it was the center of gay life in the area. In the 80’s it was there during the AIDS crisis and also open to women and brought gays and lesbians closer together. For many young people it was the first gay bar they visited and it is a real shame it will be closing.

Belgium might get its first gay Prime Minister ,socialist di Rupo. The biggest Party though in the elections were not the socialists but the New Flemish Alliance, a party that wants to separate Flanders from Wallonia. They do wanna make a coalition with the socialists and that leader is french-speaking Di Rupo. Does not seem to make sense but the reasoning might be that making someone President that most Flemish people do not like makes the chance of a separation even bigger.Sort of a trap. I can kind of understand Flanders though. They are much richer and have to basically support the poor Walloniers. I mean who would you pick, Dutch people or French. That is basically the question.

Police has set fire on a house in Iraq where 2 gay men, a lesbian woman and 2 transgender people lived. The people living there were arrested and one might suspect that they are being tortured as we speak. Since the arrest of Saddam Hussein 720 LGBT were arrested and/or killed. Horrible.

Some fun to end the day. Every year there is a 7-day AIDS cycle ride through California to raise money for HIV/AIDS. I once saw a documentary about this and it is touching to see people with HIV, volunteer and other people work together to achieve fantastic goals. For a few guys the biking was not tiring enough and they made a very sweet clip for Katy Perry’s song “California Gurls.”

Mother Theresa on Empire State Building

11 06 2010

There has been so much talk and bitching about whether or not the 100th birthday of Mother Theresa should be celebrated with a special color of the Empire State Building in blue and white. The Empire State did not want to do this. No one knows why but catholics are pissed and feel it is about them. I dunno, at first I thought they only did things that have got to do with the U.S but the 60th anniversary of communist China was celebrated in red last year and the death of Pope John Paul 2 was remembered as well. Owner Malkin even said yes to Mariah Carey so than mother Theresa must be a yes as well,a little more important in history then miss Carey don’t you think. My feelings about mother Theresa or a bit double. She has done so much good for everyone in the world also for instance opening AIDS hospices in NY, but is also the reason I lost a quiz on TV once and with that lots of money. I thought a pic of her was shown really blurry but it was actually Frank Sinatra. I was nervous, all right!! But it has haunted me ever since.

Gay news, Jesse Helms, NY Gender Nondiscrimination Law, U.K politican outed/resigns, Kylie’s clip denied for lesbian kiss

31 05 2010

Recent records show that Jesse Helms, the late senator who was a very active anti-gay politician, had called the FBI because he got death-threats from gays back in the day. It is not surprising gays wanted to hurt him. He was against aids funding back in the 80’s saying it was caused by disgusting human behavior , fought against the civil rights of gays and voted against any pro-gay law. Nothing ever happened to him though, but I hope it did cost him some sleepless nights back when he was alive, he ruined many people’s lives.

The chances of the Gender Expression Nondiscrimination Act becoming Law in Ny got a mayor boost this week. They have 32 senators on board now, enough to get a majority. It would add gender identity to the human rights law that protects people against discrimination in employment, credit, housing. About time, it is hard enough to have gender issues as it is to have to worry about housing and jobs.

Britain’s Treasury Minister David Laws was one of the stars of the new coalition but has now become its first casualty. He funneled government money to his boyfriend by getting him a room he rented and was not out as gay. The  self-made millionaire and Liberal Democrat( surprise, not a conservative) is still known by colleagues as an honourable man who not went into politics for financial gain. He does not seem that honourable to me.

MTV Asia is not gonna show the new clip of Kylie Minogue, called “All the lovers” because it features a lesbian kiss. All the nudity in it is fine but 2 girls kissing… Pretty pathetic. A short preview of the clip.
