Gay news,U.S district court thinks DOMA unconstitutional, HIV vaccine breakthrough, U.K supreme court/asylum, Helsinki Gay Pride arrests

A U.S district court in Boston has ruled that section 3 of DOMA is unconstitutional. It is an enormous victory for same-sex marriage. In both Commonwealth of Massachusetts vs Health and Human Services as well as Gill vs Office of Personnel Management, Judge Tauro thinks DOMA violates equal protection principles. Great news!!

U.S government scientists have discovered 3 powerful antibodies against the HIV virus. The strongest neutralizes 91% of all cells!! More than any before. The cells were found in an African-American gay man who had the cells naturally. Researchers screened 25 million of his cells to find 12 that produced antibodies. Unfortunately it will be years before this can be used on people, still very good progress.

The U.K Supreme Court has decided that gay couple who fear retribution in their home countries have a right for asylum in the U.K. The decision involved 2 men from Iraq and 1 from Cameroon. Lord Hope said that to compel a homosexual person to deny their sexuality is to deny them a fundamental right to be who he is. Well said. Lord Roger said that just as male heterosĀ are free to enjoy rugby, beer and talking about woman with their male friends ,gays should be allowed to listen to Kylie ,drink exotic coloured cocktail and talk about boys with their girlfriends. A little ridiculously stereotypical but I guess he meant good.

Last weekend it was Helsinki Gay Pride. Three men decided to ruin the fun and used pepper spray and smoke bombs. Over 30 people were hit by it and also some children. Nobody was injured but the men have been charged with a hate crime and Finnish president Tarja Halonen denounced the attack.

Gay news, Lesbian killed by dad-in-law/girls try to kill lesbian schoolmate, marriage equality around the globe, celebrity coming out on May 5

27 04 2010

A father in Lakeland, Florida allegedly killed the girlfriend of his daughter and was arrested. Friends of the victim say he was unhappy that the girl “pulled his daughter into the lesbian lifestyle and on the wrong path.” This comes days after 3 teens kidnapped and tried to kill a lesbian schoolmate by throwing her off a cliff, on the Day of Silence(to promote against intolerance at schools) nonetheless. You hear more about gay men being killed/abused normally but now it seems to hit women pretty hard as well.

While the proposed marriage equality in Portugal will be vetoed by the president on the day the Pope visits Portugal there is still hope the parliament can overrule this veto with a third voting round. In Finland meanwhile the parliament will consider marriage equality and adoption no matter what the outcome of the upcoming election will be. Good news!

A celebrity will come out of the closet on May 5. PR powerhouse Howard Bragman will orchestrate it and the star will have an interview with Larry King that day. I think it is either Johnny Weir or Queen Latifah.

Woman dead on couch for 2.5 years

27 01 2010

In Helsinki, Finland, renovators for the windows found the old lady. Food in the fridge and the dates of the woman’s medication were indications for the time of passing. The woman was not married, hadĀ no kids and all the bills went electronic. Still though, she must have been super lonely to begin with. How sad.
