Gay news, Gay Rights ranking Europe, Zimbabwe arrests, John McCain and the gays

26 05 2010

The International Gay and Lesbian Association has released its Rainbow Europe County Index on how legislation affects LGBT people. Sweden is number 1 followed by Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain. Those 4 have anti-discrimination laws not enshrined in the constitution, like Sweden(but they do mostly use it) From the EU, Cyprus, Latvia and Poland not good and finished last. From non EU countries Turkey, Russia and Ukraine did bad.

Two members of a Zimbabwe Gay organization have been arrested. At first the government and police said it was because of drugs and porn but yesterday it was made clear they got a letter from former SF mayor Brown that was critical about that monster of a President Mugabe. Mugabe described gays as less than pigs and dogs. The 2 men are still in jail, hopefully unharmed…

Senator John McCain is anti gay marriage, opposes gay adoption, against gays in the military and against ENDA(discrimination against gays in workplace). On the other hand his wife has been a vocal supporter of gay marriage, his daughter is super pro-gay and now he hired a gay man, Mark Buse to run his campaign for re-election of Senator from Arizona. He should listen to his inner circle more.

NY Pride will be shorter than ever in a cost-cutting measure by the NYPD. It will go from 36/5th instead of 52/5th but still ends in Christopher Street. Apparently the same thing will happen to all parades in NY. I think it is totally fine, more crowd on a denser area and less to walk for the marcher in the (maybe) heat.

Gay news, Malai gay couple sentence, Tranny Republican congress candidate!, celebrities(James Bond/Harry Potter

19 05 2010

The 2 Malawi men that where jailed last december for celebrating their engagement with plans of marrying this year were found guilty and might be sentenced to 14 years in jail and hard labor. According to the court they are guilty of rude obscenities and unnatural acts. The courts and people of Malawi do not want to be like western counties they say. Maybe the western countries should stop sending them millions of dollars, see how that goes then.

Donna Milo, formerly Ed would like to be the next Congresswoman for Fort Lauderdale. To do that she has to win the Republican primary in August first, yep she is a Republican!. She is anti-government, pro small business and thinks the oil spill is just a mishap. She is also a total believer in America. Hope for her the people of Florida believe in her….

Johnny Galecki, mostly known as Darlene’s boyfriend on Roseanne David denied being gay on the View, but also said he never responded to rumors about it before because he believes it is not something offensive. Good thinking.

Daniel Craig, aka James Bond was seen in a gay bar in LA called Roosterfish. Of course some media have said they saw him kiss a guy outside on a street corner, but I think he is just a straight men very comfortably with his sexuality. He is european not american…

Daniel Radcliffe, aka Harry Potter is the Ambassador for the Trevor Group, an organization trying to prevent LGBT teen suicide. He made a nice little clip for them

Gay news, Gay teen murdered in Scotland, Baltic Pride troubles, Turkish gay movement not forbidden, gay can’t play straight?

10 05 2010

A sixteen-year old gay teen and a friend have been attacked and slashed with a knife in Glasgow while walking home. He died soon after the attack and his friend is still in the hospital. A seventeen-year old male has been arrested. It is believed to have been a homophobic attack.

Baltic Pride in Lithuania that I blogged about this weekend has not gone by peacefully. Six hundred! cops had to use teargas to get the hundreds of anti-gay bigots out-of-the-way. The parade had only 300-500 participants and it shows that maybe in NY and the Netherlands Gay Pride is just a party but in other countries it is still a whole lot more.

In Turkey last friday a court decided that Black Pink Triangle, a gay group, should be allowed to exist there. The governor of Izmir wanted to have it forbidden because it was against good Turkish morals and family tradition. Great thing that even in some Muslim countries the law is on the good side.

Broadway Superstar and TV-actress Kristin Chenoweth(famous from my all-time fav musical Wicked) is playing in the revival of Promises, Promises with Sean Hayes aka Jack from Will and Grace and she fought back against a nasty article in Newsweek about how gay men cannot play straight. According to the article it is easy for straight men to play gay, but people do not believe it the other way around. Chenoweth rightly says how much it means for gay kids to see out/proud actors like Neil Patrick Harris and Cynthia Nixon(Miranda from Sex&theCity) not only succeeding in their work as an actor but also are very believable as straight. A true friend of the LGBT community.

Celebrities, Green Day, Lance Bass, Collin Farrell, Cyndi Lauper, Lady Gaga

10 04 2010

Lance Bass, GreenDay and Cat Cora will host a gay prom in Mississippi open to everyone but geared towards gay youth that could not bring their dates to prom. Kids like Constance McMillen who could not bring her girlfriend and where the school held a secret prom for the rest of the students that she could not attend. Great that people are doing something about despicable acts like that.

Actor Collin Farrell has been speaking out against anti-gay bullying for a campaign to help youth in Ireland. His gay brother Eamon came home bloody sometimes after school because he was “different” and Collin made a great statement how different in fact is great and it is a disgrace that some kids do not survive their teenage years because of bullying like this. Great guy he is!

Cyndi Lauper’s organization is helping establish Manhattan’s first permanent housing for LGBT youth that are homeless. The True Colors residence will open in Harlem in the Winter of 2011 to help 18-24 year old to get back on their feet. What a fantastic and very important thing.

Lady Gaga loves her fans and that is why she spoke out in favor of a 15-year old student that was wearing a I heart Lady Gay Gay shirt to school that was sent home. She says she is proud of him and that he should just be himself!! Hear, hear

GLBT news; Top 5 Gay destinations, BearForce1 split, India creates third gender for voters

14 11 2009

Top 5 gay leisure destinations in the U.S according to a recent survey by the LGBT-focused Community Marketing Inc. are:     1 New York,  2 Las Vegas, 3 SF, 4 LA, 5 Chicago. Seems to be mostly the biggest cities otherwise Fort Lauderdale, Key West and Provincetown should have been higher. With lesbians Las Vegas is number 1, also not surprising. The survey also mentioned the most popular countries for American LGBT travelers in Europe. Number 1 is England, 2 France,3 Germany, 4 Italy 5 Spain. I do not understand England being number 1, I think it should have been Spain. Maybe because it is closest to the U.S.?? Italy is great but not so much for specific gay destinations. And where is the Netherlands???

Gay boy-band with hairy fatties BearForce 1 no longer exists. Well I guess for some it was fun as long as it lasted. Basically 2 years I guess with 2 minor hits. The producer of the band was on dutch TV a while back(he is a famous dutch actor) and he said they were mostly popular in the U.S where the bear community is the biggest. But since a year they have had more changes in members then the Sugababes and they were basically a one-trick-pony anyway. It will not cost me a minute of sleep that is for sure.

Indian election authorities have granted what they call an independent identity for transsexuals on the country’s voter lists. They have the change to pick O for “Other” instead of male or female from now on when indicating their gender. Wow after first legalizing gay sex not this. They are getting very progressive in India lately.

Gay News, elections gone sour, homophobe soccer player fired, teacher suspended after teaching class about homosexuality in animal kingdom

4 11 2009

Except for a few highlights, a lesbian woman won the race for mayor of Houston, Texas and the passing of the anti-discrimination law against LGBT people in Kalamazoo for gays yesterday’s election was a big disappointment. The biggest one in Maine where marriage equality was voted against with a 5.4% margin. I was really hoping that a blue state like Maine on the east coast would vote in favor of equality but apparently the majority of U.S. people just don’t think gays deserve equal rights. Other disappointments were the election of homophobe Ken Cuccinelli as attorney general of Virginia, a man who called homosexual acts unhealthy and wrong and the win of anti-gay New Jersey senator Chris Christie. Shame on you voters!!

In Denmark they show how you treat homophobes. FC Midtjylland fired its star goalie Arek Onyszko after his book called “Fucking Polack” was released. In that book the polish(surprise, surprise) player says he hates gays, thinks they are disgusting and likened them to vomit. The man assaulted his ex-wife before and went to prison for it. So his comments that his catholic beliefs prohibit him from accepting gays flies out of the window with that. I think religion also does not favor beating up your wife. Like many christians all over the world he uses religion just as he pleases.

A teacher at Southwestern High School in Piasa, Illinois has been suspended for assigning his class an article about homosexuality in the animal kingdom. According to the school it wasn’t age appropriate for high school(yeah right) The teacher ,who is straight by the way with kids, even gave the free option for kids to use the article or not. During his hearing this week many people showed up to support him and eventually the school “only” gave him a warning. It’s a known fact that there is homosexuality and even transsexuality(with shrimp to mate) in the animal life. Why is that too much for 12-16 year old kids to read or know.

Hate Crimes Bill a fact!!!

29 10 2009

Yesterday Barack Obama signed the bill into law. I have to say I have been negative about him in the past few months but this is the first great thing he has done as a president. So I have to give credit where credit is due!!  From now on violence against LGBT people because of their orientation is a federal crime. Bush in the past and many Republicans now are against it, because they think it’s an over-reaction and limits freedom of speech, but meanwhile in the last 10 years at least 12.000 hate crimes were committed, so fuck them!!
