Gay news, gay couple holds kiss-in at restaurant, Mark Kirk outed, first gay marriage Portugal, nude transgenders in Delaware

7 06 2010

A gay couple from Chicago were discriminated at restaurant La Fiesta Azteca last month for holding hands and kissing a few times. The owner asked them to leave citing his religious beliefs and the fact the restaurant was family friendly. They did not wanna pay because they did not finish their food but the owner demanded their money. Yesterday 100 people had a kiss-in at the restaurant to protest this. While I think it is not necessary to be super affectionate in a family restaurant for anyone, gay or straight this had solely to do with the fact these man were gay and then it is something to protest against indeed.

Mike Rogers is an outing blogger that has a 100% success rate in his outings so far. This time he is going after Mark Kirk, an Illinois Republican. Kirk has voted numerous times against gay right and denied he is gay himself, saying people only think so because he got divorced. No mr Kirk, people think so because a purse falls out of your mouth every time you open it and because 2 men have claimed to have had sex with you and Rogers met you and saw you interact with gay men on a specific way. Even though I could not understand a life in the closet I think it is fine as long as you are not a closeted homophobe.

Today the first gay marriage in Portugal was sealed. Two divorced women in their 30’s that have been together since 2003 tied the knot in Lisbon. As a result of a decision in April by the president and parliament Portugal follows the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Spain, South Africa and Canada in making same-sex marriages legal. And lives have not changed that much in those countries since.

At Rehoboth Beach in Delaware several transgender women in the process of becoming full women removed their tops while sunbathing. After complaints patrol came and asked them to cover up and after first refusing eventually they agreed, but they were pissed.Women are not allowed to show their breast which I think is stupid but that is the rule. So the transgenders should follow suit and act like ladies and cover up. I mean you wanna become a woman or not??

Gay news, Gay Rights ranking Europe, Zimbabwe arrests, John McCain and the gays

26 05 2010

The International Gay and Lesbian Association has released its Rainbow Europe County Index on how legislation affects LGBT people. Sweden is number 1 followed by Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain. Those 4 have anti-discrimination laws not enshrined in the constitution, like Sweden(but they do mostly use it) From the EU, Cyprus, Latvia and Poland not good and finished last. From non EU countries Turkey, Russia and Ukraine did bad.

Two members of a Zimbabwe Gay organization have been arrested. At first the government and police said it was because of drugs and porn but yesterday it was made clear they got a letter from former SF mayor Brown that was critical about that monster of a President Mugabe. Mugabe described gays as less than pigs and dogs. The 2 men are still in jail, hopefully unharmed…

Senator John McCain is anti gay marriage, opposes gay adoption, against gays in the military and against ENDA(discrimination against gays in workplace). On the other hand his wife has been a vocal supporter of gay marriage, his daughter is super pro-gay and now he hired a gay man, Mark Buse to run his campaign for re-election of Senator from Arizona. He should listen to his inner circle more.

NY Pride will be shorter than ever in a cost-cutting measure by the NYPD. It will go from 36/5th instead of 52/5th but still ends in Christopher Street. Apparently the same thing will happen to all parades in NY. I think it is totally fine, more crowd on a denser area and less to walk for the marcher in the (maybe) heat.

Gay news, Mugabe rears his ugly head again, Lithuania just as gay friendly as Norway!!??, anti-Derrick rally

27 03 2010

Zimbabwe leaders Mugabe and Tsvirangi are outraged at even the suggestion for gay rights, Mugabe calls homosexuality something that destroys nationhood(like he not already destroyed Zimbabwe single-handedly). In 2006 he already called gays less than pigs and dogs. Poor people of Zimbabwe.

Lithuanian prime minster Kubilius defended his country against allegations from the EU that it would be homophobic by saying it was just as tolerant as Scandinavian countries like Norway and Denmark. What a joke, those countries are some of the most tolerant on the world. Lithuania, not!!

Poor Derrick Martin. First his parents throw him out of the house after finding out he is gay on such a media level. Now some student are holding a anti-Derrick rally because they do not like it that he can bring a boy to the prom and all the attention this brings to their town. Ugly bigots, shame on them. Only positive thing for Derrick, Ellen DeGeneres wants him on her show.

Sports, Jankovic wins Indian Wells, Kramer World Champion speed skating

22 03 2010

Not Kim Clijsters, Maria Sharapova or Justine Henin won the crown at the big tournament in Indian Wells the last fortnight, but surprisingly it was Jelena Jankovic. She beat Caroline Wozniacki in the finale with 6-4 6-2. It was the first big win of Jankovic in ages and I am happy for her, always liked her. Sharapova is injured and Clijsters and Henin desperately need more match rhythm, that combined with the absence of the Williams’ sisters makes this not so likely to be repeated by Jankovic in Miami this week.

At the last tournament on the speed skating calendar in a sold out stadium in Heerenveen, the Netherlands(the only place to get a full stadium in a tournament after the Olympics) Sven Kramer became World Champion Allround. This is a two-day tournament over 4 distances. Jonathan Kuck from the U.S was the big surprise at number 2, number 3 was Havard Bokko. With the ladies Martina Sablikova from the Czech Republic was the best, before Canada’s Kristina Groves and dutch Ireen Wust was number 3.

Olympics unfortunately over

1 03 2010

It were overall mediocre games with extreme sad lows like the death of the Georgian Luger, the death of Joanne Rochette’s mom and the at times very bad circumstances(trouble with the ice at the speed skating, conditions on the ski slopes) and highs with dutch golden medals, extremely tight/nerve-wracking races and Canada winning a record amount of golden medals. The overall medal count and deciding who the winner is, proves to be difficult. What is more important, the amount of medals overall or the most gold??. My bf and I decided to be fair, the gold was 5 points, silver 3 and bronze 1. That makes Canada the winner, before the U.S and Germany in third.  Norway is a strong number 4 and then there is a big gap. Holland is in 10th, pretty good. My personal highlight were the gold of Mark Tuitert, Ireen Wust and the great performances of the German biathlon girls. Biggest disappointment the disqualification of Sven Kramer at the 10k and the miscommunications at the team relay that cost a sure gold.

Olympics, wednesday and thursday

26 02 2010

Wednesday was not such a good day for the speed skating but it was known that the 5k would be the weakest distance fo the dutch ladies. Jorien Voorhuis ended in 10th place and Elma de Vries was number 11. The winner was the best woman for years on this distance, Martina Sablikova. Germany’s Stephanie Beckert was 2 but the difference between 1/2 was very small. Maybe next year it will be Beckert at number 1. She has made huge progress in the last 2 years. Canada’s Clara Hughes won the bronze at her 5th Olympics(summer as a bicyclist included) Today will be the start of the men’s and women’s pursuit. The dutch men are clear favorites with probably Korea and Norway as the numbers 2 and 3. U.S has a small chance for a medal. The dutch ladies had a horrible draw and have to face Germany first and title favorite Canada next if they beat Germany. I think Canada will win, Russia will be 2 and Germany or the Netherlands will end with the bronze.

With the skiing there has been a lot of talk between the catfight of American’s Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso. Mancuso had complained about Vonn getting almost all media attention and then Vonn fell at the Giant Slalom which resulted in Mancuso having to ski again, after already having completed half of the track and she lost a sure medal in that race. Still I am team Vonn, she seems nicer.

Johnny weir had the perfect comeback after people asked him what he though about the reporters that said boys will not be allowed to figure skate because parents are afraid they will turn into Johnny. He thinks kids should only be so lucky as to turn into him. I totally agree with him. He is a two-time Olympian, World Championships medal winner, U.S champion and has his own reality show on the Sundance Channel. Nothing wrong with that.

Olympics day 8 ,Gold!!!!!

21 02 2010

And what a gold it was for dutch Mark Tuitert. The guy lives within 30 minutes from my house and that combined with that I always thought he was a hottie made me root for him for years. He never really did what he could though when things mattered. Often finishing third , fourth or fifth. The same thing happened at the 1K where he made a misstep in the first round and lost a medal at 2/10 and ended in 5th place. Yesterday it was all working for him though and he not only started good but kept it going until the end. Even heavy favorite Shani Davis could not beat his time and won the silver, for Norway’s Havard Bokko. Davis showed he is a great guy by graciously admitting his defeat in yet another 1500m at the Olympics, 4 years ago it was against Enrico Fabris. Still gold and silver is good for almost any athlete, also Shani. Pity for the U.S he does not start in the relay where they would be a strong medal contender(silver probably). He does not get along with Hedrick though and that has a lot to do with this. Hedrick seems like a cocky ass, so I understand Shani in that regard. Still, you should be able to get over that for a medal chance at the Olympics I would think. Tuitert will start at the relay and will have a good chance for another gold.
