Snow in 49 of 50 U.S states

13 02 2010

Almost all U.S states have snow this weekend. Only in tropical Hawaii there is none. It is so rare that all states have snow that experts can’t see this ever happened before. Even in Florida there was enough snow to make a snowball and that was enough to make it the 49th white state. Weirdly enough the northern parts of the U.S actually have less snow than normal(Canada as well) It is possible that there will be snow in all states, on the top of Hawaii’s highest volcano there has been snow in the past. That would be something!

The View

10 02 2010

On this extremely snowy day I woke up early, still a bit jet-lagged and thinking what to do. Then it hit me, go to the View!. The studios are walking distance from our apartment here and the only other time I went it was fun. Tickets generally need to be booked 24 months in advance but I hoped a lot of people would stay home because of the weather. And I was right, could walk straight in!! I had really good seats and was sitting right in front of the ladies. Unfortunately Whoopie was snowed in and could not make it but Barbra Walters, Joy and the other were there.Last time it was all female audience this time a lot of (gay) men as well, so that was good. As guest Jackie Collin was there( and we all got a book), Tim Gunn from Project Runway being his fabulous self and as a musical guest Sade was there and boy was she good!! I love her on radio but live it is almost even better. Elisabeth was fighting with everyone, Joy was by far the funniest, Sherri was nicer to the audience and in general than I expected and Barbara seemed a little moody. All in all a great way to spent this shitty day!

Global warming???

10 01 2010

In the Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain there is more snow and colder temperatures than we have seen in years. Airports being closed, weather alarms almost every day, not enough salt to make the roads less slippery. Combined with the extreme weather in the U.S where such as in Key West there were temperatures in the 40’s, colder than in 150 year you got to wonder how bad the global warming is. The earth overall might get a little warmer but there is no proof that the cause is man-made. With the economic crisis and the terrorism threat there are a lot more important things too worry about then the Al Gore bullshit. Wonder if more people disagree with all this or agree.

Flying through London Heathrow with BA around X-mas equals disaster

31 12 2009

The week before flying through Heathrow Airport there was talk of a BA strike around the Holidays. Even though BA personnel is about the least helpful and friendly from all airlines and gets paid the most, they wanted more money. We changed flights to KLM but because BA was forbidden to strike by a court decision me and my boyfriend had to keep our original BA tickets otherwise it would have cost us an extra 900 dollar. Arriving from New York to London on the 22nd of December we arrived at the BA gate at around 8 in the morning and saw that our flight to Amsterdam was cancelled because of bad weather. There was no bad weather in London and not in Amsterdam, either but it was all weather related anyway according to the ground staff. After waiting in line for an hour a bitchy queen helped us and we could be the 40th!!! stand-by for the flight to Amsterdam at 11.40. No, having business class seats would not do us any good he said, we just had to wait like everybody else. First we had to get our luggage with all the other stranded exhausted people(no flights were going to anywhere else in the UK either) People had waited for hours but we “only” had to wait for over an hour to retrieve our bags and try to check in for the next flight to Amsterdam. Unfortunately thousands of other people had to wait as well so by the time we were being helped it was already 11. Being business class we should have been on the 11.40 flight according to the person helping us then, but now it was already too late and he was sorry for the way the bitch before had treated us.We were booked on the 4.40 to Amsterdam and that one was definitely going he assured us. We had to wait for over 4 hours on the airport while I had not slept for almost 30 hours and was getting fairly moody and upset by that point as was my partner. Slowly our wait came to an end ¬†and at 4 pm we were ready to go board our flight to Amsterdam again. Just to find out this flight was cancelled as well due to lack of staff. Our initial theory that many BA people would just call in sick instead of a strike seemed to become the truth. BA was having none of that though and according to them it was all weather related(sure!!) Next flight the following day at 3 pm. Around us people were crying for having to miss the flight home for another day, but BA just acted like people should not give them such a hard time and that they were the victim. We have the money to pay for a ridiculously expensive hotel at Heathrow Airport but many don’t. Those people just have to sleep at the airport. Next day with an hour delay from London Gatwick ,which is a tranquil heaven compared to Heathrow, we arrived in Amsterdam. It had cost us 1500 dollars and a full day, thanks BA!!. Since two years ago I was stranded there as well for almost a full day( left at 9 at night instead of 9 in the morning) and my partner being delayed 6 hours last year I would recommend everyone to avoid Heathrow and BA around X-mas like the plague.
