Gay news, Gay Rights ranking Europe, Zimbabwe arrests, John McCain and the gays

26 05 2010

The International Gay and Lesbian Association has released its Rainbow Europe County Index on how legislation affects LGBT people. Sweden is number 1 followed by Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain. Those 4 have anti-discrimination laws not enshrined in the constitution, like Sweden(but they do mostly use it) From the EU, Cyprus, Latvia and Poland not good and finished last. From non EU countries Turkey, Russia and Ukraine did bad.

Two members of a Zimbabwe Gay organization have been arrested. At first the government and police said it was because of drugs and porn but yesterday it was made clear they got a letter from former SF mayor Brown that was critical about that monster of a President Mugabe. Mugabe described gays as less than pigs and dogs. The 2 men are still in jail, hopefully unharmed…

Senator John McCain is anti gay marriage, opposes gay adoption, against gays in the military and against ENDA(discrimination against gays in workplace). On the other hand his wife has been a vocal supporter of gay marriage, his daughter is super pro-gay and now he hired a gay man, Mark Buse to run his campaign for re-election of Senator from Arizona. He should listen to his inner circle more.

NY Pride will be shorter than ever in a cost-cutting measure by the NYPD. It will go from 36/5th instead of 52/5th but still ends in Christopher Street. Apparently the same thing will happen to all parades in NY. I think it is totally fine, more crowd on a denser area and less to walk for the marcher in the (maybe) heat.

Gay news, Gay teen murdered in Scotland, Baltic Pride troubles, Turkish gay movement not forbidden, gay can’t play straight?

10 05 2010

A sixteen-year old gay teen and a friend have been attacked and slashed with a knife in Glasgow while walking home. He died soon after the attack and his friend is still in the hospital. A seventeen-year old male has been arrested. It is believed to have been a homophobic attack.

Baltic Pride in Lithuania that I blogged about this weekend has not gone by peacefully. Six hundred! cops had to use teargas to get the hundreds of anti-gay bigots out-of-the-way. The parade had only 300-500 participants and it shows that maybe in NY and the Netherlands Gay Pride is just a party but in other countries it is still a whole lot more.

In Turkey last friday a court decided that Black Pink Triangle, a gay group, should be allowed to exist there. The governor of Izmir wanted to have it forbidden because it was against good Turkish morals and family tradition. Great thing that even in some Muslim countries the law is on the good side.

Broadway Superstar and TV-actress Kristin Chenoweth(famous from my all-time fav musical Wicked) is playing in the revival of Promises, Promises with Sean Hayes aka Jack from Will and Grace and she fought back against a nasty article in Newsweek about how gay men cannot play straight. According to the article it is easy for straight men to play gay, but people do not believe it the other way around. Chenoweth rightly says how much it means for gay kids to see out/proud actors like Neil Patrick Harris and Cynthia Nixon(Miranda from Sex&theCity) not only succeeding in their work as an actor but also are very believable as straight. A true friend of the LGBT community.

Cuba claims to have oldest woman in the world

3 02 2010

Juana Batista is according to Cuban authorities 125 years old. She was born February 2 1885 and lives on the east side of the island. She has 3 kids and is in good health. She says good nutrition and clean air are her secrets.Last year Turkey claimed to have the oldest living woman, from 1884 but for neither of these women there is a birth certificate so who knows if it is true for sure. Seems awfully old. I would sign up to be 85 now if I could.

Gay news; bigot actress fired, gay honor killing Turkey, gay man beaten in Canada

9 09 2009

Patricia Marceri of ABC’s soap One Life To Live claims she as fired because her religious beliefs did not allow her to go along with a story-line that involved her son’s coming out. In the series she was a Latina mother who was positive about her son’s homosexuality and Patricia could not play that because of her beliefs. So basically she just got fired because she refused to do what she was supposed to do, not because she is religious. Who does she think she is, she was just an actress on the show.

A Turkish man goes on trial for the ‘honor killing’ of his own gay 26-year-old son. After the son told his dad about a relationship he had with a German-Turkish man, the dad first threatened him and then, a while after that, rented a car and killed him. The boyfriend of the  gay son also wants those who helped with the murder prosecuted. It’s one of the first gay ‘honor killings’ on record. For Islamic women this has been a problem for years and something I think deserves the hardest punishment there is. It’s just so unbelievable to me to kill your own kid only to ‘save face’ in your community.

A gay man was brutally beaten in the U.S. border town of Thunder Bay in Ontario. He was attacked by six to eight haters with bricks and suffered 15 fractures to his cheekbones, a broken eye socket, a broken jaw and a broken upper palate. He was with two friends who were approached by a man for a fire and after the man got aggressive and the group walked away more men came along and started making nasty sexual orientation comments. The victim started screaming loud after his friend got choked and his friends were able to get into a cab but the victim was too late. Those pieces of trash need a good couple years in prison, but no arrests have been made yet unfortunately.

Gossip; Justin too hot for Turkey, Lindsay Lohan being funny or delusional

8 09 2009

The sexy clip of Justin Timberlake and Ciara for their single ” Love, Sex, Magic” is deemed to hot for Turkish TV. The ethics board from Turkey deems it harmful for children growing up and bad for morality in general. I think the clip is fine for all hours but definitely for after 9 pm. Pretty outdated their in Turkey.

Lindsay Lohan was either being really funny and able to make fun of herself or very delusional for wearing a “just say not to drugs” t-shirt. It’s like Madonna wearing an “I’m into older guys” t-shirt. Or Joan Rivers with a “just say no to plastic surgery blouse” Or Kirstie Alley with an……

The widower of British reality star Jade Goody, Jack Tweed, is back in trouble again. This good looks like such a sweet guy, nice brown eyes, a little feminine, skinny. But looks can fool. First he was sentenced for attacking a teenager with a golf-club, then  for assaulting a taxi-driver. A sentence that caused him to miss many precious moments with his then terminally ill wife and now he is being held into custody for rape. To think that if he would have played his cards right he could be one of Britain’s most treasured widowers.

In my favorite potty-mouthed comedians book, Kathy Griffin talks about some plastic surgery and diet dramas in her life. As people that know her from earlier times can tell, she clearly had a nose job. She also had liposuction though that nearly caused her to die after complications. She also used extreme diet pills that are basically just speed. That reminded me of the TrimSpa stuff that Anna Nicole sponsored. I have always been fairly lean(still am( but for a while 5 years back I felt like 5 pounds to heavy so I used Trimspa for a month or so. That certainly had some energizer in it as well, I was really jittery from it and could not sleep well. After I stopped taking it my whole metabolism was out of wack for 6 weeks or so and I gained 15 pounds in that time. Thanks god eventually things got back to normal but that says something about those products.
