Fight breaks out during tennis match

3 09 2010

This does not happen often. All people involved were arrested I read somewhere. Serves them right.

Gossip, Capriati overdose ,Melrose place star in trouble. Mel Gibson

29 06 2010

I heard the sad news yesterday that former tennis star Jennifer Capriati ended up in the hospital after an overdose. The former olympic gold medalist and 3 time Grand slam winner used too many prescription drugs according to her family. She has had her bouts with depression and suicidal thought and was busted for shoplifting and smoking pot in the past. She recently dated a famous porn star and had not played tennis since 2005 because of an injury. Hope she will be fine soon.

Amy Locane played Sandy in the original Melrose Place and was my favorite until she got ousted and was replaced by Jo. She was arrested in New Jersey yesterday for second-degree vehicular homicide. Not good. She crashed into the side of another car as it was trying to turn in a driveway and killed a passenger, the driver is still in critical condition. Amy had been drinking way too much and might be going to jail for 10 years. Sad.

Mel Gibson’s true colors are shining trough again. He got a restraining order against her to make her shut up about some alleged abuse on his account. Media reported that he punched her in the face so hard that she lost some teeth. What a way to treat your wife of a little over a year and the mother of your kid. Whether this is true or not Gibson is a nasty vile man.

NeNe Leakes, star of the Real Housewives of Atlanta is getting a divorce after 12 years of marriage. They had a bad year with her son being busted with pot and rumors of an affair of NeNe with an NFL player. Now sources say he might be giving out some juicy details about NeNe’s past. I like Nene so I feel sorry for her.

Bristol Palin had her acting debut in Secret Life of Teenage Mothers and she proved not to be as good in faking it as her horrible mother. This is some truly shiteous acting.

Wimbledon day 7

29 06 2010

It was the round of 16 yesterday and as expected it was fantastic. The most anticipated match was that between Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin. I missed the first set because I had to help my sister at her berry farm but because of the heat and the world cup soccer I  saw most of the second and third and it was so nerve-wrecking I had heart palpitations as times. Clijsters had a bad first set and make many unforced . Justine fell in the beginning of the match but played great in the games after the fall so it probably did not do her that much damage. Clijsters started to play with more aggression in the second set and her strokes penetrated the court often leaving Henin to make bizarre swings on her shots .In the third Henin just made too many errors  and Kim won 2-6 6-2 6-3, but if Kim wants to beat Venus or Serena her serve has to be better as well as her movement. On hard court it is such a weapon but yesterday she looked a tad bit sluggish at times to me. I also like to see her going to the net a bit more, she is a fabulous doubles player so on grass she needs to be that a bit more. The other great match-up was between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, both former champions and it was a match on a high level. Sharapova has not played great in a while but yesterday there were glimpses of the former champion with great serving at times as well(something she did not do much since her shoulder injury). She had 3 set points in the first set but could not convert and suffered an early break in the second losing 7-6 6-4. Serena’s serve and mental game were A+. Venus also had a tough match against Jarmila Groth from Australia but won, a little lucky,  6-4 7-6. Jelena Jankovic had to retire in her match against Vera Zvonareva being down 1-6 0-3. Zvonareva finally playing great again, when she is on she has one of the best groundstrokes on tour. Bartoli lost surprisingly against Pironkova and Na Li beat Agnieska Radwanska.

Zvonareva

Wimbledon day 6

27 06 2010

Again there was no 3 set match in this part of the bracket and so far the tournament did not have memorable matches yet but that might start in the round of 16 that will feature some classics! Yesterday Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki all won their matches easy. Unfortunately that was not the case for my favorite Flavia Pennetta, the number 1o seed. She lost against Klara Zakopalova, someone who seems to be having 1 good tournament a year and this time it is atMarion Bartoli Wimbledon. Outsider Vika Azarenka lost surprisingly as well 7-5 6-0 against Petra Kvitova. Azarenka played horrible and this really is a missed chance for her.

Round of 16 matches will be Serena -Sharapova, Li- Radwanska, Wozniacki- Kvitova, Zakopalova- Kanepi(lucky Wozniacki with that draw!!) Clijsters-Henin, Zvonareva-Jankovic, Pironkova-Bartoli, Venus-Groth. I pick Serena, Wozniacki, Clijsters and Venus in the semis. With my predictions for the last 16 , I had 10 right. Hope only Kim is right this time!!

Wimbledon day 5

26 06 2010

I cannot say yesterday was a very exciting day in the women’s bracket. All matches in round 3Vera Zvonereva were over after 2 sets and there were hardly any upsets. Well, Nadia Petrova is seeded 12 and lost to the number 17 Henin, but that is hardly shocking. Kim Clijsters won as well and that means Clijsters and Henin will face each other monday. Other Belgian star Yanina Wickmayer lost against Vera Zvonereva. I like Vera and it has been a while since she played good so this was nice. Venus, Jankovic and Bartoli all won as well.

Wimbledon day 3

24 06 2010

With the ladies it was not as spectacular as with the men yesterday. Clijsters, Henin and Venus all won their second round matches in straight sets. Henin played my favorite Kristina Barrois who played pretty decent and won 8 games. Henin at times was superb, except for that little off-period in the end. Venus beat Eastbourne champ Makarova 6-0 6-4. Very routine. Jelena Jankovic had a tougher task but beat Aleksandra Wozniack 4-6 6-2 6-4. Only seeded players losing were 13th Shahar Peer against Germany’s Kerber and 30th seed Shvedova lost against Kulikova. Kim looked good and I hope she can play all her matches at a similar level.

Longest tennis match ever!!!

24 06 2010

I could not stop watching. It was momentous, heroic and incredible. John Isner from the U.S and Nicholas Mahut from France played the longest tennis match in history. They started Tuesday and at the end of the day it was 2 set all and the match had to be suspended because of darkness. Yesterday they started again and it had to be suspended again and they will continue today. The score is 4-6 6-4 7-6 6-7 59-59!! That last set alone would have been the longest match ever played on the ATP Tour of over 7 hours and they are playing a total of 10 hours now. I was rooting for American Isner, the cute giant with the undefined body against Mahut ,”the Marcel from Top Chef look-a-like” with incredibly fit body. Isner was the most exhausted and at times you had to be worried about both their physical and mental physique. It brought back some dark memories for myself. The last real long tennis match I played(almost 8 years ago) I had a fever of over 100 degrees before the match started and I played anyway for over 2 hours, eventually back at home it was 102 and I stayed sick for 3 months with glandular fever(mono) and my health has since then never been the same. These guys are in better shape so will be fine but still, what an event. Dutch man Thiemo de Bakker is a lucky guy, he played a 16-14 last set and will play the winner of this match but I doubt these men can come back and play great anymore after all this.

Wimbledon day 1

22 06 2010

The first 2 hours Wimbledon started every match apart from Kim Clijsters’ easy win went against who I had hoped would win and by the end of the day my conclusion was not too positive. Two of my favorites, Patty Schnyder and Fran Schiavone lost. Schnyder sucks on grass and made only 2 games and Schiavone fought hard out there but had a very tough draw against Dushevina and the timing and rhythm were not there yesterday. She served horrible and that is deadly on grass. It must be hard after such an unexpected win at a slam to perform well in your next matches. The only other seeded player bowing out was Katerina Bondarenko. Henin, Bartoli and Venus Williams all won easy, so did my German favorite Kristina Barrois. I follow her quite interesting blog almost every day. Other favs Britain’s Elena Baltacha and Anna Lena Groenefeld from Germany lost as well yesterday. Best match of the day was Jelena Jankovic against 16-year old British talent Laura Robson. Robson played brilliant at times but Jankovic was too steady winning 6-3 7-6.

Tennis, Grass Court Season

16 06 2010

After a long clay season it is always fun to see how many early upsets there are in the second biggest grass court tournament of the year in Eastbourne. This year is no different. Yesterday and today in the first and second rounds Wozniacki, Petrova Pennetta and Roland Garros champ Schiavone lost. All did great at the clay of Roland Garros but showed playing on grass is something else. Kim Clijsters though, who came back after a few months of injury timeout, proved she is a class above the others just mentioned and beat fellow Belgian Wickmayer(with icy handshake by Wickmayer) and Safarova 6-1 6-1 and 6-1 6-0. Hope this is a good sign for Wimbledon for Kimmie.

Yes!!!! Francesca Schiavone wins Roland Garros

5 06 2010

What a surprise!! I had been a fan since I first saw her play  6 years ago at the tennis tournament in Stanford, CAFran Schiavone but never expected her to win a grandslam tournament. Schiavone played a great match winning 6-4 7-6 against Sam Stosur. It was their first slam final but they did not start nervous. With great spin and slice they made it a great fight. The difference probably was mental, Schiavone is just a little stronger in that area and she excelled in the tie-break. Super happy about this.
